Typology and Modeling of Pre- and Post-Supplication Themes in the Qur'an with an Education-Oriented Approach
Abstract:
In the Qur'anic perspective, supplication is a means of attaining nearness and elevation toward God, and in the worldly realm, it carries numerous educational effects for human beings. Accordingly, the aim of the present study is to identify the types of pre- and post-supplication themes in the Qur'an, in order to extract their descriptive model and derive related educational implications. To achieve this goal—and due to the multifaceted nature of this study—the research method combines descriptive phenomenological steps in referring to Qur'anic verses with data analysis and coding based on grounded theory strategy using MAXQDA software, in three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. In the section on educational implications for specialized courses, the method of inference from foundational principles is employed. In other words, the researchers first conducted a comprehensive reading of all Qur'anic verses, then coded, categorized, and typologized the extracted data, and finally used the derived model as a basis for inferring educational implications. The findings indicate that there are 68 open codes (Qur'anic verses) related to pre- and post-supplication themes in the Qur'an, which have been categorized into two selective codes. These two categories are then divided into seven axial codes: praise and glorification, gratitude, and description (appearing in both pre- and post-supplication sections), and questioning (specific to pre-supplication themes).
Ultimately, the data have been interpreted within ten educational principles, including: the principle of consistency between theme and content, the principle of consistency between attribute and content, the principle of describing conditions, the principle of stating the goal and rationale, the principle of indirect expression, the principle of conditional supplication, the principle of dual-perspective reflection, the principle of past praise, the principle of recognition, and the principle of attracting attention.
