Abstract
Protecting a country’s borders against foreign aggression is one of the most fundamental duties of any government and is also regarded as a divine obligation and a lofty value in Islamic teachings. National security, which is the result of the efforts of border guards and the prudence of officials, provides the foundation for the growth and advancement of society. In this regard, the 27th Prayer of the Sahifeh Sajjadiyeh reflects the profound perspective of Imam Sajjad on the status of border guards and the necessity of supporting them. The present study, employing thematic analysis and using Excel software, analyzes the passages of this prayer and extracts a total of 85 basic themes, 6 organizing themes, and 3 overarching themes. The quantitative findings indicate that among the organizing themes, “factors contributing to the enemy’s defeat” has the highest frequency (39 instances), followed respectively by “characteristics of border guards,” “outcomes of successful border guarding,” “support for border guards,” “rewards of successful border guarding,” and finally “obstacles to border guarding.” Based on these frequencies, the overarching themes of the prayer are organized around three main axes: 1. Characteristics and supportive requirements of border guards; 2. Factors and obstacles related to the enemy’s defeat; 3. Outcomes and rewards of successful border guarding. Overall, the thematic analysis yields an educational model representing Imam Sajjad’s perspective on the duty of border guarding in its geographical dimension.
