Abstract
The present study aims to analyze the educational components of repentance in Munājāt al-Tāʾibīn (the Supplication of the Penitents), part of Duʿāʾ al-Khamsa ʿAshar (the Fifteen Whispered Prayers) of Imam Sajjād (a.s.), using a descriptive-analytical method and drawing upon Qur’anic verses, authentic narrations, and authoritative commentaries. The findings indicate that Munājāt al-Tāʾibīn goes beyond being a devotional text, offering a systematic model for self-purification based on five key components: (1) self-purification through self-awareness, (2) emotional transformation grounded in constructive remorse, (3) strengthening faith and hope in divine mercy as a catalyst for spiritual growth, (4) enhancing knowledge of God through invocation of His names and attributes, and (5) a practical commitment to lifestyle change through making amends for the past. Through its dialectical discourse of “confession–hope,” this whispered prayer reconstructs the servant–Lord relationship in the process of repentance, and by relying on Qur’anic and narrative teachings, it highlights the educational role of repentance. The results show that Munājāt al-Tāʾibīn, as the heart of Duʿāʾ al-Khamsa ʿAshar, not only provides a model for religious education but also serves as a practical solution for addressing the moral crises of the contemporary age.

Repentance, as a central concept in religious texts, is not merely a return from sin, but rather a transformative and educational process for reconstructing individual and social character. Amidst this, the “Supplication of the Penitents” (Munajat al-Ta’ibin\text{Munajat al-Ta'ibin}Munajat al-Ta’ibin) in the Fifteenth whispered of Imam Sajjad (PBUH) – recognized as the heart of this prayer – serves as a rich treasury of semantic and pedagogical subtleties in explaining the path to repentance. Despite numerous studies on repentance in the Quran and Hadith, a systematic investigation of its educational components in the literature of supplications, especially this specific supplication, is an undeniable necessity. This research aims to answer the question, using a descriptive-analytical method, of what the educational components of repentance are in the Supplication of the Penitents and how they are presented in a cohesive model.
