ABSTRACT. The twenty-seventh prayer of Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya, which focuses on supplication for border guards, is a comprehensive and complete prayer that delicately explains significant components such as its coherent linguistic structure and lexical applications within this theme. Therefore, analyzing the discourse of this prayer can shed more light on its underlying ideological and doctrinal structure. On the other hand, discourse analysis is a modern and effective approach for examining spoken and written language, introduced by two contemporary linguists, Hodge and Kress, who based their analytical framework on four main pillars: nomination, nominalization, the use of passive versus active constructions, and action versus relational sentences. Using a descriptive-analytical method, this study adopts the Hodge and Kress model to examine the ideological and theological components of the prayer’s text, analyzing the discourse in the twenty-seventh prayer of Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya and explaining its overall orientation. The results of the research show that in the component of nomination, concepts such as emphasizing the eternal reward of the combatants and the steadfastness of the warriors are observed; in the component of nominalization, meanings such as the eradication of the enemy and the succession of the combatants are mentioned—both reflecting a divine ideology. In the component of action and relational sentences, the highest frequency belongs to action sentences related to the acts of supplication. In the component of passive and active sentences, concepts such as the worship of God and the acknowledgment of His oneness appear. In the component of causal relational sentences, meanings such as the unity and uniqueness of God are presented, consistent with a monotheistic worldview. In this prayer, there is no instance of equative relational sentences.
