Divine Social Traditions in Sahifah Sajjadiyyah
Abstract
It is clear that one of the most frequent topics in religious teachings is the issue of divine traditions aimed at society, which is addressed as a strategy to raise people’s awareness of the world around them. Access to these traditions is possible through reference to religious texts, including the Sahifah Sajjadiyyah. The present research is organized using a descriptive-analytical method with the aim of understanding the divine traditions in this honorable book. Accordingly, relevant texts were examined, and after a brief discussion of the literal and technical meanings, four indicators of traditions were extracted: "generality, certainty, harmony with the law of causality, and immutability." In the category of absolute and general social traditions, six types can be identified: "trial and testing; guidance; the commissioning of prophets; the sending of divine books; the completion of argument (ultimatum); and the reflection of deeds." The bound and conditional social traditions are also of three types: "destruction; respite (imhal); and gradual entrapment (istidraj and imlā’)." The findings showed that divine traditions, in both individual and social realms, and in both absolute and conditional forms, exist in the Sahifah Sajjadiyyah and are extensively expressed through the language of supplication, along with their contexts, processes, and methods. The extraction and presentation of nine types of divine social traditions in the Sahifah Sajjadiyyah is considered one of the innovations of the present research.
