Investigating the Possibility of Achieving the Status of Vision and Meeting God Based on the Fifteen Whispered Prayers (Munajat Khams Ashar)
Abstract:
"Meeting God" is one of the important mystical topics and represents the ultimate stage of the spiritual journey of mystics. However, it is denied by many because they are unable to comprehend this status, or due to their belief in the transcendence of God's holy essence, or their interpretation of related verses and narrations as referring solely to the Day of Resurrection and divine judgment. This is despite the fact that numerous verses and narrations describe "meeting God" as the pinnacle of human spiritual ascent and the ultimate goal. Many prominent scholars and mystics have defined "meeting God" as the vision of the Divine through the cognition of the heart and have regarded the denial of this status as an obstacle to attaining true knowledge of God. The purpose of this research is to identify the evidences related to "meeting God" in the Fifteen Whispered Prayers of Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) to confirm the indisputability of this spiritual state. To achieve this, using a library-based approach, the study reexamines and analyzes the content of these fifteen prayers and their commentaries descriptively. Themes related to vision and meeting, as well as Imam Sajjad’s direct and indirect references to the state of closeness to God and "meeting God," were identified. Additionally, expressions and terms associated with this concept, such as vision, gaze, sight, beauty, face, union, and proximity, were extracted from these prayers. The frequent occurrence of expressions related to "meeting God" in the Fifteen Whispered Prayers demonstrates the significance of this concept in the mysticism of the Prophet’s Household (peace be upon them), serving as evidence for its undeniable reality.
