Abstract
The term training in the thoughts of Muslim intellectuals refers to, more than anything else, human beings’ spiritual and incorporeal training, since there is no higher value and goal for an individual than spiritual training which is in accordance with his creation. However, humankind’s innate deprivation is placed at the heart of Islamic spiritual training. In other words, mankind does not possess anything by nature, and is completely deprived, and whenever this innate poverty and deprivation is acknowledged, the relationship between the created and the Creator (God) is specified and humankind gets closer to God. The present study, utilizing a descriptive-analytical method and statistical analyses, aims to find the essence of spiritual training in Sahifa Sajjadia and based on this, appreciating this innate deprivation is believed to be at the core of spiritual training. Therefore, by exploring the following six words: ‘faghr’, ‘fagheh’, ‘maskanah’, ‘za’f’, ‘zolal’, and ‘haghir’ in Sahifa Sajjadia, the study has found that forty three percent of the prayers in Sahifa Sajjadia implicitly refer to the concept of innate deprivation. This implies the importance of essence of spiritual training based on acknowledging innate deprivation.
